Fall Is Time to Prepare for the Cozy Stay at Home Season Ahead

Although Spring is the season of renewal and beginnings, the back to school flurry of activity and the pending “official” beginning of the fall season always prompts a desire to make small changes in home routine and decor.

The urge to “cocoon” for the coming winter means that fall decorating trends emphasize darker, richer tones, more texture and gleaming metals. This year copper, old brass and bronze are favored; family heirlooms and treasured antiques are popular and add a sense of permanence and solidity to the home.

Making small changes can be as simple as adding new accent pillows and a cozy chenille throw. Put away the shell collection and bring out old leather-bound books. Add a rug or two to summer’s bare floors. Plant pots of mums with their rich color and showy blossoms by the entry door, light lots of fragrant candles and bring some green plants indoors.

It’s the season to enjoy your home and family, whether it’s Saturday football games or quiet evenings spent in front of the fire.
