A Very OC Fourth of July

The OC knows how to celebrate, and the Fourth of July is no exception. While there is the usual assortment of food, fireworks, and festivals galore throughout Orange County, some towns find unique ways to let freedom ring. Here are a few of the OC goings on that will add some extra sparkle to your Independence Day festivities in 2013.

The Canyon Hills Community Council’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration features game booths and a spectacular fireworks display at at Peralta Park, but the Yankee Doodle Dog Show is what really gets our tails wagging. Every celebration has a different flavor, and Dana Point’s All American BBQ Buffet, featuring all of your traditional favorites from ribs to summer salads, is a particularly tasty one. If you’re planning on putting away the food this Fourth, start the day off right in La Palma by entering the festive 5k/10k Yankee Doodle Dash. Later, for a change of pace, consider hitting the high seas on a 4th of July Fireworks Cruise with Dana Wharf Sportfishing; the cruise overlooks one of the coast’s most amazing fireworks displays. Landlubbers can still get in on the seafaring fun by heading over to Newport for the town’s famed Old Glory Boat Parade, which features a colorful assortment of bedecked vessels. If an old school parade is more your thing, you’re in luck in Lake Forest. And these are just a few of the happenings around town this July 4. The OC is bursting with even more fun things to do if you know where to look.
